Learning the Content
This two and one-half day conference will provide the basic tools you will need to become an EPEC Trainer. Master facilitators and national experts in palliative care will present four plenary and 12 interactive small-group sessions. After these sessions, you should be able to:
  • Describe the gaps, elements and models of end-of-life care, and related legal issues
  • Explain the principles of pain management and recognize other common symptoms, including dyspnea, nausea/vomiting, constipation, depression, anxiety, delirium
  • State strategies to address requests for physician-assisted suicide, sudden illness, medical futility, withholding/withdrawing treatment
  • Identify approaches to effective communication, decision-making about goals of care, advance care planning and whole patient assessment
Applying Teaching Skills
Masters facilitators will demonstrate a number of different teaching styles, and participants will have the opportunity to plan a portion of one of the EPEC modules.

Registration Form and Information
All applications must include completed registration form and fee, a one-year plan for teaching with the EPEC Curriculum and a letter of support. Fee includes EPEC educational materials, daily continental breakfast and lunch on the first day. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA credit. Please refer to the program brochure for additional accreditation information.

Hotel
The program will be held at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue: 900 Bellevue Way NE; Bellevue, Washington, 98004-4272. For your convenience, a block of rooms has been reserved at the Hyatt Regency at a reduced rate of $149 per night. To make reservations, contact the hotel directly at 800-223-1234 and reference the EPEC Project. The deadline for hotel registration at the reduced rate is Wednesday, June 7, 2006.
